I review here my reasons and suspicions—and speculate about who will be the next manager to go.

Hull relieved Phil Brown of his duties following their loss to Arsenal last weekend, and a run of four losses in succession.

Trophy pride on the line

DEFIANT Kidderminster Harriers manager Steve Burr has urged his shell-shocked troops to salvage some pride in their FA Trophy semi-final second leg at Stevenage Borough on Saturday.

The Aggborough outfit go into the game trailing 5-1 after they were stunned at home by the Blue Square Premier leaders last weekend.

That result was the first time Burr has experienced defeat since taking over the management reins.

The 18-year-old made his senior debut in the Carling Cup clash against Swansea in August 2008.

He has since made two Premier League appearances for the Tigers, including the 2-1 defeat by Arsenal last weekend.

The struggling Barclays Premier League club parted company with Phil Brown earlier this week and Dowie emerged as the leading contender after several other reported targets ruled themselves out of the running.

Dowie, who will be assisted by Steve Wigley and Tim Flowers, has been out of the game since leaving Newcastle where he was assistant to Alan Shearer following the Magpies' relegation.

The former Charlton boss will have just nine games to save the Tigers from relegation.

For example what kind of fool would agree to a contract that guarantees someone walking away with £16m for being unsuccessful?

And why on earth did Phil Brown sign his own death warrant as Hull manager by claiming it's acceptable for players to indulge in fisticuffs provided they don't do it in front of the local Women's Institute?

The Sun claimed on Wednesday that the Clarets had grown exasperated by a record of just one win in ten Premier League games that had seen them slip into the relegation zone.

But Burnley rubbished the report hours later, insisting they would not take a leaf out of Hull City's book, who this week sacked manager Phil Brown with just nine games left in the season.

Even in this beautiful weather, he won't be doing much in the way of hedge-trimming.
He'll be sitting dolefully in front of his "Greatest Goals of Dean Windass " DVD, wondering how he managed to be sacked from the club he turned into the unlikliest Premier League team of all time.

The struggling East Yorkshire club parted company with Phil Brown earlier this week and Dowie emerged as the leading contender.

Bookmakers stopped taking bets on Dowie as the former Crystal Palace and Charlton boss, currently working as a pundit on Sky Sports, emerged as the number one contender.
